Abstract

The present article is to disclose the role of English and the classroom outlooks of Indonesian local schoolsas impacts of the implementation of ASEAN Community. Thus, the results areEnglish in ASEAN including Indonesia will serve asELF (English as a Lingua Franca),a working language of ASEAN citizens who have different native languages. Moreover, theclassroom outlooks of Indonesian local schools will have changes in terms of students’ background. The students willbe more various not onlyfrom Indonesia but also from other ASEAN countries like Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Philippine. Ergo thispresent article is intendedto give clear views and insightsfor Indonesian EFL teachers andteacher educators on the critical issue of the impactsof ASEAN Community in realm of English language teaching and learning.

  • Jepri Ali Saiful, Yogyakarta State University, Indonesia

    Jepri Ali Saiful, B.Ed TEFL has three research interests in the areas of critical EFL pedagogy; pre-service teacher professional learning and development; and EFL teaching practices in 3T regions of Indonesia (the forefront, outermost, and lesser-developed regions). He is so thankful to Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) (Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education) which gives him a scholarship to pursue a master degree at Yogyakarta State University, Indonesia in Applied Linguistics major. Hence, he is now a master student in Applied Linguistics department.
