Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the impact of supplying additional resources in improving skimming and scanning techniques of reading comprehension. The study follows experimental design utilizing pre-test and post-test. The sample of the study was 105 undergraduate students from College of Science at Charmo University, Sulaymaniyah in Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences. The independent sample t-test was used to explore the differences between male and female participants. Furthermore, the paired samples test was employed to observe the significant differences between control group and experimental group. The findings of the study demonstrated that no statistical differences were noticed between male and female participants for the control group. Conversely, a significant difference between male and female existed, in the experimental group, with a higher mean score of females than male participants. On the other hand, there were significant differences between the control and experimental groups; the participants from the experimental group had remarkably better performance than the ones from the control group. This study highlights the value of integrating supplementary materials into reading instruction, particularly for students facing challenges in reading comprehension. The findings provide actionable insights for teachers, educators, and policymakers to design targeted interventions that improve specific reading strategies, thereby contributing to improved educational outcomes.
